About the role

We are looking for a kitchen assistant to join our front facing team within the farmhouse kitchen. Working in an open kitchen you will play a vital role in delivering food experiences to our guests.

The kitchen delivers food aligned with our food philosophy, which specifies nutritional, sustainable and ethical practices centered around a soil to gut approach. We are supplied with biodynamic vegetables grown on site, cultivated and foraged wild foods and locally sourced organic ingredients as well as a small percentage of foods from further abroad.

You will work alongside our experienced Chefs supporting them with:

  • preparing and delivering breakfast, lunch and dinners for retreats in the farmhouse kitchen.
  • Preparing produce, especially vegetables from the land. Our food often comes within hours of harvesting and all members of the kitchen team are responsible for cleaning and processing
  • Being in an open kitchen necessitating guest interaction and engagement whilst maintaining a clean and functional working environment.
  • Supporting the production department in preservation and processing
  • 42 Acres is developing it’s offering for woodland fire cooking, on and off site events, the food trailer and the addition of a second indoor dining space likely to open in Summer 2022.

You will be

  • Responsible for keeping all kitchen work surfaces clean and sanitized
  • Sweep and mop floors at the beginning and end of shift
  • Ready to clean up spills quickly and efficiently without hindering service
  • Wash cookware, cutlery and utensils promptly to keep them in rotation
  • Arrange ingredients and deliveries
  • Keep the food and storage areas organised
  • Remove rubbish and waste each shift
  • Help with routine food prep, such as washing and chopping vegetables
  • Ready to clear tables and tidy the tea station and dining areas
  • Ensuring all policies and procedures are adhered to

About you

  • Previous experience (welcome but not essential)
  • Practical, hands on and willingness to jump in and help where necessary
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Calmness in the kitchen but an ability to work with speed and efficiency
  • Confident and able to communicate clearly with guests and colleagues
  • Interest in Soil to Gut food, farming, foraging and ingredients (welcome but not essential)
  • Happy to be outside and helping on the land when needed
  • The ability to work flexible hours / days and weekends
  • The legal right to work in the UK
  • A fluent grasp of written and spoken English
  • Ability to travel to work in a remote rural location
