Principles of Permaculture

Step into the garden and explore how permaculture design creates self-sustaining systems that work with nature, not against it.

Join our growers, Guy and Dave, for an engaging, hands-on tour of our permaculture garden.

Discover how the principles of permaculture design help us create integrated, self-sustaining, productive, living systems that work with nature – not against it.

As you explore our small, diverse farm, you’ll see these ideas come to life in the way we grow food for our guests in harmony with the environment. But permaculture isn’t just for farming – its principles can be applied to everything from business to relationships.

About the hosts

42 Acres

David McKenna

David manages our 2-acre permaculture garden here as part of our agriwilding management scheme for the land – inspired by permaculture design and natural agriculture. Come and find David in the garden or join our monthly Permaculture Volunteer Days to experience our work first hand.

42 Acres

Guy Dunwell

Guy has worked in horticulture for 4 years, starting out in perfectly-manicured, weed-free “Downtown Abbey” type estates. But he felt that keeping things so perfect was unsustainable, unnatural and boring!

As a permaculture gardener here at 42, Guy is excited to work with wilder spaces. He enjoys finding the balance between creating a beautiful garden, but also giving it space to breathe and let nature do its thing. He has an interest in edible perennials and is creating a food forest system in his front garden at home.
