“Retreats are places of personal refuge. They are places to decompress and discover meaning; places to dream, to learn, to grow, to rest – but, ultimately, retreats are places of self-love. They are dedicated places of permission.”

Seth Tabatznik, Founder, 42 Acres

The Hermitage - A Sacred Space

Our 13th-century Hermitage has long been a sacred space. Consciously restored using sustainable, locally sourced, natural materials and sympathetic methods, it is powered 100% by renewable energy.
The result is a cosy, nurturing sanctuary that offers peace and calm.

Our self-guided retreats include meals from our deeply nourishing "Soil-to-Gut" menu. You’ll eat simple, hyper-local, nutrient-dense food - much of which has been organically homegrown on our regenerative farm or wild-foraged on our land. The food you eat here is a final expression of our land, lovingly tended and created by our Land and Food Team.

Our team tread gently. Our intention is to be helpful but unintrusive - allowing you the spaciousness to be yourself. We host daily transformational experiences inspired by the divine wisdom of nature. Each invites hands-on experience and reflection. Choose from this rhythm of events; or simply rest and restore in nature; or browse our thoughtfully-curated mini-library and snuggle up by the fire.

This is a place to experience yourself as nature. We steward this land in deep connection with all the living beings we share it with. You’re welcome to explore. Walk in the ancient forest and swim in the lake. Visit our sacred bee garden and woodland mushroom farm. Take a stroll in our 100% edible ornamental walled garden or to the secluded beaver lodge. (If you’re quiet you may even hear them snoring).

Elegant Simplicity

Inside you’ll find understated luxury and timeless simplicity - natural light, real fires, soft touches and far-reaching views down to our 7-acre lake. We supply luxurious linens, fluffy towels and local, organic toiletries. Plus thoughtful touches to support your self-guided retreat experience - from yoga mats and swim towels to art supplies and meditation tracks birthed from this land.

“The Hermitage is not only light physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. It’s like a breath of fresh air. You walk through these spaces
and there’s something holy about that.”
