Join us for an interactive wander around our edimental gardens (including our 100% edible ornamental walled garden), stopping-off at key points to sample edible stems, leaves, fruits, seeds and flowers. You'll experience a wide range of edibles - some of which might well be growing in your own garden.
Our vision at 42 Acres is to be in harmony with nature, self and others. We'll share how we connect with this vision by gardening in a way that works with nature and offers beautiful spaces that invite us to be mindful.
At the heart of our ornamental gardens is our walled garden. It is both productive and beautiful, being planted 100% with edible plants. Here, we mix vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers in a way that not only holds guests in the space but also nurtures diversity and encourages pollination.
We'll take an edible mini-safari of our ‘Food Philosophy Beds’, designed to tell the story of our 'Soil to Gut' philosophy and our belief that the more we diversify our diet, the more resilient we become.
The experience is exclusive and complimentary to guests staying with us on a Self-Guided Retreat Package. There is no need to book. Russell or Guy will meet you in the dining room at the Hermitage.
Guy has worked in horticulture for 4 years, starting out in perfectly-manicured, weed-free “Downton Abbey” type estates. But he felt that keeping things so perfect was unsustainable, unnatural and boring. As an Ornamental Gardener here at 42, Guy is excited to work with wilder spaces. He enjoys finding the balance between creating a beautiful garden, but also giving it space to breathe and let nature do its thing. He has an interest in edible perennials and is creating a food forest system in his front garden at home.
As Head Ornamental Gardener at 42 Acres, Russell sees his role as creating and maintaining beautiful spaces where people can focus on self-reflection, diversify their diet, engage with nature and connect with others in a meaningful way. He loves conveying a feeling with plants, whilst creating a haven for wildlife and opening eyes to what is edible in the garden.
